Jose Cruz has faithfully served the public in San Bernardino County as a Firefighter for over 11 years. Jose currently serves as a Firefighter in the Fontana, Ca area. Jose works hard each day to make a difference in other’s lives, but now he is need of a helping hand of his own. In typical firefighter fashion Jose does not like to ask for help. However, with circumstances beyond his control, there comes a time that we at San Bernardino County Fire stop at nothing to take care of our own.
Jose Cruz has been diagnosed with Testicular Seminoma with metastasis to three other areas in his body. His treatment regimen will require at least four rounds of chemotherapy and surgical removal of the areas that can be operated on. After these have occurred his further treatment will be based on the success of the initial treatment. His treatment regimen will require him to be off work for a substantial period of time. Although the prognosis for these types of cancers is relatively good, the treatment regimen can be exhausting physically, emotionally, and financially.
Jose is happily married to his wife Celeste and their beautiful five month old daughter. The family will be by Jose’s side throughout his treatment. Jose’s wife will not be able to work throughout Jose’s treatment as she will steadfastly take on all duties of the household as Jose fights, heals, and then recovers.
The crisis of cancer in the fire service is real. Jose will fight his cancer with his mind set on returning to full duty in the job that he loves. Jose, his family, and the San Bernardino County Fire Department stand together in the fight.
The Cruz family anticipates expenses not covered by medical insurance and a significant loss of family income.
