Cal Fire Firefighter Misty and US Forest Service Firefighter Jeremy Blake have two adorable children, Annie and Benjamin. As parents truly their children are their pride and joy. On October 30, young Annie was diagnosed with B-Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This type of leukemia does have the highest cure rate, but it is a 2 1/2 year treatment process, and right now she is not reacting well to the chemo and steroids.
Little brother Benjamin had surgery at Stanford Hospital on October 27 for hypospadias and chorded. He will return to Stanford for several more visits yet this year. Now Misty and Jeremy will miss more than 4 months of work to care for the young Annie. Complicating matters is that Annie’s weekly appointments will all be in Santa Barbara, and Jeremy will return to Stanford in Palo Alto, while the family lives in Atascadero. Certainly the distance between the care sites will weigh heavily on the family.
